Brian Bear – Color me impressed!
I watched a webinar this afternoon, and the host was Brian Bear. I wouldn’t say I attended it, no one but me and my husband knew I was there. I had been doing some research for a project I am working on, but the first two minutes of the webinar drew me in, and I watched the entire thing.
There were no slides. There was no video. No pictures to look at. Nothing. So what on earth impressed me?
Brian Bear
This is what happened. Brian Bear opened his webinar by saying that all of his nearly 100 websites were down, because of a communication glitch, so his prepared webinar would be a question and answer session only…any questions ???
My head snapped around and my jaw fell open. 100 websites? Down? communication GLITCH??? WHAT? (I broke out in a rash just thinking about it)
Brian Bear seemed mildly upset. A little frustrated. He apologized to the people on the webinar because they would have to wait until tomorrow for the presentation they were expecting today. Seriously.
He explained the glitch and how to avoid it — and then proceeded to invite every one who could make it to lunch next week at a function where he is going to be.
Brian Bear could have freaked out and and gone on a rampage. He could have taken to his bed in despair. He could have at the very least postponed his webinar with the excuse that the material was in limbo due to the glitch – but he didn’t. Nor the one scheduled a few hours after that. (He isn’t on the leaderboards for nothing, folks!)
Brian Bear used to be a truck driver. Big Rigs. That is what my Daddy does now (he used to be a carpenter). Given the erm…tolerence level for “communication glitches” of my Daddy and his buddies, Brian Bear displayed *calm cool and collected* like I have never seen today.
This does not mean Brian Bear doesn’t get rattled. I have seen him near tears. Several times. He’s actually had to cut his video sharing off webinars before because of it. So, if 100 websites being down doesn’t make him choke up, what does?
When Brian Bear talks about the people behind GVO Host then Profits, and the opportunity it has afforded him, his voice deepens and cracks. His eyes fill, and both hands open with palms upward as if he is holding a large gift. It is really quite moving to see.
Brian Bear – he looks like your next door neighbor. Maybe the guy standing behind you at the grocery store. He sounds like my cousin. Certainly not an internet Rockstar. Except he is on the leaderboards and is crazy successful and he is tearing it up in our industry. What he doesn’t have is the Rockstar ego. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate to have him as our sponsor.

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.
C. S. Lewis
What if we all made a decision to fly today? Hold up! I did not say jump off a cliff today. I said make a decision to fly. Today.
When I was young, grown-ups constantly asked me “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I wanted to be a singer, a writer, a ballerina and a beekeeper at different times. Once, when when I was angry at my mother I informed her that I would be 25 feet tall when I grew up, so I could be THE BOSS. She thought that was hilarious.
Most of my life, I have been a loner. Not the creepy kind looking through a scope – the shy, sad kind. The kind who when asked her opinion would freeze up entirely or say something inane – never what she actually thought. Why? Heh… the few times I said what I actually thought I had to find a new BOSS. (I am reading heavily on communication skills.)
Since I decided to own my own business, I have met so many amazing people that have taught me directly and indirectly invaluable lessons. Things that cannot be read in books. I learned by watching what they do. How they talk to people.
When I asked earlier “What if we all made a decision to fly today?” I heard in my mind the sound of 7 billion eggshells cracking. It was awesome. Deafening. I had to stop a moment and collect myself. What if we all decided we fix the economy ourselves? By balancing our own checkbooks? What if we decided to educate ourselves and our children with the money we make? What if we then teach everyone we know to do the same thing?
